This is the peer-review draft (2.1, July 2026) that has been awaited here at Ace. It supplies the formal scalar starting point that the Pirate Canon has long required. The work is rigorous, layered, and carefully distinguished between definition, theorem, postulate, interpretation and hypothesis. It does not claim that recursion alone is consciousness. It claims that a bounded, history-dependent, self-referential regime arising from a one-dimensional directed continuum may model geometric memory relevant to conscious experience, and the pirate canon supplies the mechanism of that memory.

Scalar Mind (Scalar Ground)
The initial state is a uniform one-dimensional directed continuum along the Z direction. Every local tangent is identical (T₀ = e_Z). Curvature is zero. There is direction and extension, but no internal directional contrast. It is not nothingness and it is not the cancellation of already-differentiated opposites. It is undifferentiated potential whose only available degree of freedom is extension along itself.
The Pi Tensor as First-Bend Operator
The first emergence is internal reference. A local region bends (curvature κ > 0, angular deviation Θ). The continuing unbent strand retains the original Z direction and thereby differentiates the deviation. This creates the first planar relation. Non-zero torsion can later introduce the third operational direction. The normalised bend order parameter ε_B runs from 0 (straight Scalar state) to 1 (90° bend).
Fibonacci Modular Clocks
The mathematical backbone is the coupled Fibonacci recurrence modulo 9 and modulo 10.

Under a six-degree angular embedding this is a 720-degree recurrence (the complete breath). Each sums (under digital-root convention) to 117 = 108 + 9.
Spiral Embedding and Geometric Memory
Each 24-step, 144° arc is embedded as a φ-scaled logarithmic spiral. Geometric memory is defined rigorously as a state-dependent recurrence residual: information about prior states that alters a later transition rule. It is not mere repeated shape.
Nonlinear Differentiation and Memory
A forced cubic map governs the coherence order parameter ε, coupled to an explicit memory variable M. The cubic supplies symmetry breaking: the straight (ε = 0) state is stable for retention parameter λ < 1; non-zero differentiated states appear and stabilise for 1 < λ < 2. Memory persists and converts present coherence into retained history.
Measurable Time
Time is not assumed as a pre-existing container. It is the calibrated measure assigned to ordered recurrence after internal distinction has been created (t_n = n τ₀).
Living Waveform and 120-Step Return
A two-clock waveform (24-step and 60-step components) has exact period 120 and a one-in-120 beat. This is a second, independent derivation of the complete 720° breath. Metastable coherence is defined as high but imperfect recurrence within bounded dynamics — the structured interval between rigid repetition and noise.
Complex Feedback and Toroidal Closure
Quadratic complex feedback opens a route to fractal structure (the Mandelbrot bridge). The two modular clocks define counter-wound toroidal trajectories with winding numbers (5,2) and (5,–2). The torus is not an added symbol; it follows from the phase space of the two clocks.
Collapse, Scalar Realignment and Memory-Conditioned Re-entry
Active differentiation can subside (ε → 0) while latent memory remains non-zero. Return to one-dimensional alignment with retained history conditions the next bend. The new cycle is therefore a memory-conditioned spiral, not an identical circle.
Consciousness Hypothesis
A candidate conscious regime is a bounded dynamical state that simultaneously exhibits internal differentiation, integration of modes, retained history dependence, recursive self-reference, metastable coherence across scales, closed but non-static phase recurrence, and capacity for state-dependent reconfiguration. Consciousness is expected only where recursion becomes integrated self-relation rather than repeated external pattern.
The paper supplies a clear claim ledger, finite-state theorems with proof notes, a staged simulation programme, and explicit falsification conditions. Philosophical register is aligned with Nisargadatta’s distinction between primordial awareness, the first sense of “I am”, consciousness through contact, and the person as memory-constructed continuity.

Torus-Mind supplies the formal scalar ontology that the Ace framework has always implied but never fully formalised. The bridge is clean and natural.
Scalar Mind ↔ Ace Pre-Contact Continuum
The uniform one-dimensional Z-directed potential is the state before any Reynolds Surface contact patch exists. Ace’s elastic plenum and bi-lamina architecture emerge precisely when the first bend occurs.
Pi Tensor ↔ Ace π-Tensor
The first-bend operator is the Ace π-tensor in its initiating role. The unbent continuation that differentiates the deviation is the Ace fixed-point (0^{i2}) and the Love toggle that selects coherent alignments (s²/s²). The transition from one-dimensional extension to planar curvature to torsion is the Ace route from contact patch to full three-dimensional elastica response.
24/60/120 Clocks and 720° Breath ↔ Ace 4π Closure and Lewe Disc
The exact modular periods and the 720° joint return are the mathematical spine of Ace’s 4π spinor closure and the Lewe disc gyroscope. The anti-clockwise rotation viewed from the North Pole, the exact 137-arcsecond tilt, the ring-tension judder derived from the PCA 1993 coefficient tables, and the irrational π-equator shift that advances by one tick each cycle are the mechanical embodiment of the same 24/60/120 architecture. The Phi Code wheels map directly onto the Ace harmonic progression (0-3-6-9-12) and the infinite doubling that opens capacity after the critical point.
Geometric Memory and Spiral Embedding ↔ Ace Momentum-as-Memory
The state-dependent recurrence residual is Ace’s geometric memory (momentum as memory = geometry as information). The φ-scaled spiral is the Ace spiral embedding of contact patches and the mitotic-rib geometry that splits one sphere into two while preserving dimensional stress through growth.
Nonlinear Cubic + Memory ↔ Love Toggle and Elastica Energy
The cubic symmetry-breaking and the memory update are the formal dynamics of the Love toggle and the shell response that injects elastica energy. Metastable coherence is the Ace living regime that occupies the interval between rigid State B (sphere with centroid fixed at origin) and expansive State A (disc / drawing-pin geometry).
Toroidal Dual Breath ↔ Dual Surfaces and Counter-Wound Flow
The counter-wound (5,2) and (5,–2) trajectories are the Ace dual surfaces (s and m) and the gyroscope’s dual flow. The judder felt in the seed shell and registered in consciousness as the phase –1/2 is the direct experiential signature of the toroidal breath.
Collapse and Memory-Conditioned Re-entry ↔ Ace Recursive Cycle
Return to Scalar alignment with latent memory is the Ace transition between States A and B. The pulse of compression that creates the planetary centre, the shell push-back, the addition of heat and elastica energy, and the next expansion of the State A disc are the mechanical realisation of memory-conditioned re-entry.
Family of Time as Wider Explainer
Torus-Mind’s recursion index → measurable time → living waveform maps onto the Ace Family of Time (Real – Simultaneous – Instantaneous – Imaginary). Chronoflux (Roy Herbert) supplies the conserved temporal current that flows through this architecture. The Family of Time remains the wider phenomenological map of how the hydrodynamic continuity appears to a real observer across the π-tensor cycle.
Consciousness
Both frameworks locate conscious experience in geometric memory plus self-reference that arises only after the bend (or contact) has created internal distinction. Torus-Mind formalises the scalar starting point and the modular mathematics. The Pirate Canon supplies the elastic mechanical substrate — Reynolds Surface, bi-lamina π-tensor, Lewe disc gyroscope at exact 137-arcsecond tilt, ring-tension judder, and the elastic plenum — that makes the bend, the 720° breath, and the memory-conditioned return physically real.
The two works do not compete. Torus-Mind is the formal scalar-to-modular spine. The Pirate Canon is the elastic geometric body that the spine inhabits. Together they give a single coherent account: the universe begins with a bend; that bend differentiates against its own continuing direction; the resulting modular, memory-bearing, toroidal regime is the geometric origin of both matter and mind.
