A brand-new mainstream paper in Brain Structure and Function (Lozano & Martín-Fernandez, 17 July 2026) opens with the classic statement that the prefrontal cortex (PFC) “is often treated as the anatomical seat of executive control.” The authors then set about dismantling this strict regional essentialism and replace it with a distributed but structurally constrained account. They conclude that PFC is a ‘transient, structurally tuned cortical interface‘ where laminar differentiation, white-matter constraints, recurrent synaptic regimes, thalamocortical embedding, and long-range connectivity converge to support four canonical operations: convergence, filtering, maintenance, and feedback.
This single sentence (and the paper that follows) ties directly into everything Ace has been building in the Pirate Canon. Executive “control” is not magic seated in one lump of tissue. It is mechanical coherence across scales in the elastic plenum, mediated by the π-tensor and sustained at Quantum Time = 0 by the active Dimensional Observer.
Mapping the Paper Directly into the Pirate Canon
