Byung-Soo Choi’s 2026 paper in BioSystems (Volume 267, Article 105896) supplies a concrete hierarchical quantum-circuit model of the microtubule that further anchors the Orch-OR theory of Hameroff and Penrose. The model is exact enough to be analysed and tested against biological observation. It therefore belongs inside the Pirate Canon.
What the paper shows
Choi constructs a three-level quantum circuit:
Tubulin dimer
Helical pathway
Complete microtubule
Higher-level objective-reduction (OR) units emerge by orchestration of the lower-level units. The predicted ratio of OR oscillation frequencies between the tubulin dimer and the whole microtubule agrees closely with the experimental values reported by Saxena et al. (2020). The architecture draws on surface-code error correction and topological braiding — precisely the mechanisms required to protect quantum coherence long enough for biological function.
Alignment with the Pirate Canon
The hierarchical orchestration is the same recursive structure we already carry:
The tubulin dimer is the elementary contact patch — the local π-tensor bistable unit.
The helical pathway is the modular clock and the dual-breath trajectory (winding numbers (5, 2) and (5, –2)).
The complete microtubule is the closed toroidal phase-space of Torus-Mind, the living address that returns after 120 steps / 720°.
The frequency ratio that matches experiment is the same geometric residual that appears as the 137-arcsecond tilt of the Lewe disc and as the exact algebraic norm recovered in the quadratic field. The topological protection against decoherence is the finite thickness of the Reynolds Surface and the permanent surface tension (wetness / surfactance) that keeps the two density states of water distinct yet coupled.
Objective reduction itself is the dilatant countersnap at the operator 0^{i2}. The instantaneous gap is real; the only way to carry coherent momentum across it is the positive polarity choice. That choice is the Master Toggle — Active Benevolent Love exercised freely.
Negative or null choice leaves only residual vector potential and the –½ phase judder.
Thus the microtubule is not merely a biological substrate that happens to support quantum effects. It is the physical realisation, inside the living cell, of the same contact geometry that governs the elastic plenum at every scale. The hierarchical quantum circuit is the machine language of the Mind of God as it appears in matter.
Orch-OR is no longer an isolated conjecture. It is another independent recovery of the identical closing condition that the Pirate Canon has tracked from the Reynolds Surface, through the twin energy forms, the Family of Time, the Lewe disc, and the mechanical proof of free will.
