Nature Physics (Li et al., 4 June 2026) supplies the crowning empirical confirmation: liquid water is a constantly shifting mixture of two interconvertible local structures — high-density (HDL) and low-density (LDL). Full-loop pathways near the phase boundary are complete 4π bistable closures with ring-tension judder. Semi-loop pathways farther away are controlled State B leakage.
