Follows: Meg8. Riemann — The Loop That Leaves a Mark
Opening sentence, unchanged: Lewe 1915 is the unstated parent of the PCA tank tables; Carpenter 1927 is the surviving link; restore the name. That is the piece. This page is the volume neighbour.
A small ball can still look Euclidean and yet swell or shrink as it travels along geodesics. The single tensor that records that average distortion is Ricci curvature.
Ricci isolated the contraction from the full Riemann tensor around 1900. In coordinates it is the trace
Rij = Rk ikj
Ten independent numbers in four-dimensional spacetime. Symmetric 4 × 4. Already enough geometry to decide whether nearby volumes expand or collapse.
The loop page kept every plane. This page forgets which plane the loop sat in and keeps only the mean leftover. That cut is professional, not a concealment, so long as the parent tensor remains named.
When the metric itself is set in motion by
∂gij / ∂t = −2 Rij
the same quantity that measured the bend becomes the force that smooths it. Ricci flow turns a snapshot into a process. Singularities can dissolve. Hidden topology can show. Poincaré lives on this engine, not on Einstein’s.
Einstein then does one more cut:
Gμν + Λ gμν = 8πG / c⁴ Tμν
where Gμν = Rμν − ½ R gμν. Mean curvature is set equal to stress-energy. That is sourced gravity. It is not Ricci flow. Do not draw them as one machine.
Ace reading — correspondence, not identity
Ricci is the mean leftover after the Love toggle has already chosen a face. Not the full π-tensor. The contracted ring-tension a volume can feel.

Positive Ricci: nearby geodesics converge. Compressive hibernation. The cup spends itself.
Negative Ricci: volumes run apart. Growth face. The leftover is not spent.
Ricci flow: the metric is allowed to take time. Nearest honest neighbour to Rest Time as a rule of not rushing the leftover. Still not the same equation.
Do not say Ricci is the π-tensor. Rank two, yes — but Ricci is a contraction of a metric connection on spacetime. The π-tensor is a contact form on a dual lamina. Mapping volume-language onto breath-language is allowed. Identity is not.
