Dear Professor Halzen
You timed a cubic kilometre of ice and your prize is for directions. I thought you may be interested with regard to the units of the clock those directions are written in.
The continuous second you insist on using measures duration along one face. It does not measure the Moment. A Moment is length held with time, m.s, the first moment of a path. Simultaneous registration — two hits that the reconstruction calls one event — is a Moment, not a second. Folding that pair into one (t) is the unit blunder.
Fig. Extract from Ace Master Table showing how Light is broken into its components.

Simultaneous Time requires a sharper unit than the continuous second, that is all. Not a spare spatial axis. Not another galaxy. The family is the pair: journey (r) in metres, and the tick that twists it. Written apart, they appear as space and a clock. Written as one unit they are the Moment.
Project 2 of my Engineering PhD portfolio puts the missing term on a cylindrical shell:
σθ=tpr+σR
σ is the only letter that wears a true superscript 2 in the method, σ_m/s2. It is not a second copy of (g). PhD Project 4 gives the residual a section modulus with duration in it:
ZR=A∗t∗L∗τ2=m4s2,σR=F/ZR
The action-like packet on the same sheet is h in Nms2. That packet is not in the IceCube reconstruction. Energy is reported in GeV. Time is reported in nanoseconds. The Moment is never formed.
Revised reading, using the Moment only.
- The instrumented ice is a hexagonal prism, 125 m in plan, 1,000 m tall, often replaced in analysis by a cylinder. Treat the fiducial surface as a wall of zero thickness. Then (pr/t) has no (t) to divide by, and the hoop is ,σ_m/s2 alone.
- Do not bin photon arrivals in the continuous second and then call the bin an event. Form the Moment r⋅τ for each DOM pair: path between modules, times the registration delay. The array already has both numbers.
- A pulse of the wall is a residual in that Moment, periodic in the ring, not a new track. The DOM is the gauge. Glass under ice load is a real shell; the virtual cylinder is not, until the Moment residual appears.
- Delayed-choice and eraser experiments are the same cut at bench scale. Which-path and interference are two readings of one registration. The continuous second forces a before and an after. The Moment does not. Information was not erased. It was split across a unit that cannot hold both faces. A combined m.s is the obvious step. It has not been taken, because Nms2 is not in the working context.
What would count, and what would not. A direction that points at a known source still points. I am not suggesting the source moves into the ice. I am suggesting a second reduction of the same waveforms: Moment residual against ring radius, with σ_m/s2 the only extra term, no new particle. If that residual is noise, then I am incorrect in my unit division of light. If it is a hoop the ice model does not carry then Project 2 has a gauge that may be useful to you.
Provenance, made visible. Viktor Lewe, 1915, thin-shell matrix, has been acknowledged by ICE as parent of the coefficient tables in PCA Circular Concrete Tanks without Prestressing and is utilised herein.
I do not anticipate a reply, but one would be appreciated nonetheless.
Yours Sincerely
Martin Reynolds BEng
