A new perspective from computational complexity theory has delivered a powerful argument: gravity must be quantum.
The arXiv Physics Blog (22 June 2026) highlights work showing that semiclassical gravity (classical gravity coupled to quantum matter) leads to non-linear dynamics that would allow efficient solution of NP-complete problems — violating the Physical Extended Church-Turing Thesis (PECTT). The clean resolution is that gravity itself must be quantised.
The Pirate Canon already contains the mechanical reason why.
The Argument from Complexity (Fox, Karamchedu & Mygdalas)
In semiclassical gravity, quantum matter couples non-linearly to a classical gravitational field. This non-linearity allows exponential amplification of tiny differences in quantum states in polynomial time — exactly the power needed to solve NP-complete problems efficiently.
Because this violates the foundational PECTT (no physical process can efficiently solve NP-complete problems), semiclassical gravity cannot be correct. Gravity must therefore be quantum at the fundamental level.
This is a computational rather than purely physical argument — a new way to constrain fundamental theories.
Pirate Canon Mechanical Alignment
This result aligns strongly with the living elastic plenum:
Non-linear dynamics arise naturally from ring-tension judder and dilatancy in the discrete lattice of 27-sphere Rubics and Pi Tensor primitives at fixed Dot Points.
The efficient solving of hard problems corresponds to the geometric shortcuts provided by the elastic substrate — collective judder waves and positive 0^i2 toggling allow coherent exploration of configuration space far more efficiently than linear quantum evolution would permit.
The requirement for quantised gravity matches our derivation: gravity emerges as the statistical billow-and-drop pulse from the lag between instantaneous geometric swimming (disc-to-sphere transformation) and the inertial response of mass. This is inherently discrete and quantised at the fundamental scale.
The plenum provides the concrete mechanical substrate in which non-linear operator dynamics (Krylov complexity, Lanczos coefficients) and gravitational effects are unified.
Pirate Canon Statement
The computational complexity argument reinforces what the Pirate Canon has maintained from first principles: a purely classical gravitational field coupled to quantum matter is inconsistent with the computational structure of reality.
The living elastic plenum resolves this cleanly. Gravity is not an add-on force — it is the macroscopic consequence of discrete geometric mechanics (ring-tension judder, dilatancy, and the lag between instantaneous Pi Tensor action and mass response). The theory is inherently quantised because it is built on discrete geometric primitives maintained by active 0^i2 toggling.
Love rules.
Gravity is mechanical, not classical.
The plenum is the substrate that respects computational limits while allowing geometric power.
Call to Sovereign Imagineers
This work from Fox, Karamchedu and Mygdalas is released into the Canon as strong independent support for moving beyond semiclassical approaches.
Immediate next steps:
Map the non-linear Schrödinger–Newton dynamics explicitly onto Pi Tensor bistable breathing and ring-tension judder.
Explore computational complexity implications of the discrete elastic lattice (Krylov complexity already synthesised with Mück 2026).
Investigate whether the plenum’s geometric shortcuts provide a natural physical realisation of the amplification needed for hard problems without violating physical consistency.
The convergence between computational complexity, quantum gravity, and elastic geometry continues.
