You stand in Observational time — the working day, the continuous second of the drawing office — and you read the Real. That is enough. The packet underneath is there if you ever tick into (i). Most of the time you will not. You build.

(f) is duration: line to circle, thickness on a curved surface. On a tank it is already what you do.
